The 10th International Fuel Cell Workshop 2025 (IFCW2025) was held at the Yamanashi Prefectural Library from Thursday, December 4 to Friday, December 5, 2025, with approximately 130 participants from Japan and abroad.
This workshop has been hosted by our university every three to four years since its first session in 1989. Its purpose is to bring together leading domestic and international researchers and engineers in the hydrogen and fuel cell field—which holds great promise as a key solution to environmental and energy challenges—to present and discuss the latest research findings, thereby accelerating widespread adoption. In addition to invited lectures by the world’s foremost researchers in solid polymer fuel cells and water electrolysis from the United States, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere, a related poster session was also held.
First, following the opening remarks by Director Akihiro Iiyama, who served as the Executive Committee Chair, and the welcoming address by President Kazuhiko Nakamura, we received congratulatory remarks from Mr. Kiyotaka Ariizumi, Director-General of the Department of Industrial Policy of Yamanashi Prefecture.
Eleven invited lectures by leading researchers and developers from Japan and abroad sparked lively discussions. From the 37 poster presentations held on the second day, three students received the Best Poster Award for Students: Tetsuji Sugaya, a first-year master’s student at Chiba University; Takumi Yashirodai, a first-year master’s student at our university; and Haruka Kato, a fourth-year undergraduate student in the Department of Applied Science, Faculty of Engineering, at our university.
The workshop proved highly productive, fostering research exchanges as participants shared their passion for the future of hydrogen and fuel cells and their deep understanding of research and development challenges.
