A paper by Professor Katsuyoshi Kakinuma of the Clean Energy Research Center and Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center, “Effects of Ir Loading on Nb-Doped SnO2 on the Oxygen Evolution Reaction Activity in PEM Water Electrolysis” was published in ACS Applied Energy Materials by the American Chemical Society, and was selected to be featured on the cover of the journal.
The paper reports the development of new anode catalyst for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Water Electrolysis (PEMWE) under the International research collaboration with Germany. The new catalyst exceeded more than ten times larger mass activity with higher durability rather than that of commercial IrOx one. Professor. Kakinuma announced that the electrocatalyst reached the top level catalytic activity and higher durability in the world with the confirmation of these mechanism, which will contribute the widespread use of PEMWE in near future.
