A paper by Prof. Makoto Uchida of the Fuel Cell Nanomaterials Center and their coworkers, ” Effect of Pt Loading Percentage on Carbon Blacks with Large Interior Nanopore Volume on the Performance and Durability of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells ” published on December 14, 2021 in the journal ACS Applied Energy Materials by The American Chemical Society, was selected be featured on the supplementary cover of the journal (A. Kobayashi et al., ACS Applied Energy Materials 2022, 5, 1, 316-329).
The title of the paper is “Effect of Pt Loading Percentage on Carbon Blacks with Large Interior Nanopore Volume on the Performance and Durability of Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cells”. Reducing the amount of Pt catalyst is the biggest issue in polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs), and this paper reported important findings related to the effective use of Pt on nanopore surfaces in carbon support particles, based on joint research with Panasonic and partially supported by funds for projects from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO). This research was carried out by Aki Kobayashi (PhD student) and coresearchers and is expected to dramatically improve the durability and performance of PEFCs.
